St. Lucia offers a variety of things to do: Hiking; bird watching; deep-sea fishing; “jump-ups" at Gros Islet; visits to the colourful weekly market at Castries; and Helicopter Tours that afford aerial panoramas of the island--including the steaming cauldron of the Soufriere volcano and the lush, emerald carpet of the National Rain Forest.

Leisurely pleasures include an evening sail or day cruise; a relaxing round of golf surrounded by the island’s entrancing natural beauty. For more invigorating pursuits there are numerous places to windsurf, water ski, dive, or play squash.

Windsurf at the most popular spots for serious surfers: Cas en Bas and Vieux Fort; for beginners the calmer waters off the west coast are more manageable. Most hotels offer windsurfing equipment and instruction.

Charter a yacht (bare-boat or skippered) at one of the charter operations at the marinas at Rodney Bay and Marigot Bay. Daytime boat trips include stops at fishing villages, secret coves and many of St. Lucia's natural treasures. Sunset cruises along the northwest coast afford spectacular views of the sun as it slips away.

Dive and snorkel in St. Lucia's warm, clear waters to observe the enthralling marine life and explore the profusion of reefs. The Anse Cochon and Anse Chastanet reefs and an old sunken ship are some of the underwater treasures waiting to be discovered.

Shop on market day at Castries’ 100-year-old outdoor market where farmers flock to gather under colourful parasols and display their enticing wares: Fresh fruits and vegetables; spices; woven baskets and other local crafts are offered. Local handicrafts can be found in a number of shops in Castries. Caribelle Batik factory and Bagshaws silk-screening studio have amazing hand-screened batik apparel and prints featuring island scenes.
