Trinidad and Tobago : Accommodations

Tobago accommodations include inns, small motels, private villas and resort hotels. Also the true Caribbean classics: little houses hidden away in the island’s lush, tropical landscape. Though there are a number of nice hotels, there are very few truly top-notch ones--by comparison with, say, Barbados or St Lucia—since many of the hotels are in the budget-travel class.

Small Hotels & Inns
There are some charming smaller properties that are idiosyncratic in style, each one addressing a particular interest. Kariwak Village, a calm enclave in the busy west end of Tobago, is a tidy, environmentally-friendly, holistic retreat set in fragrant tropical gardens. Blue Waters Inn has a beach-club style and is situated in a private, remote cove in northeastern Tobago where there is superb diving and birding.

Villas
A distinctive assortment of villas are available in Tobago including private villas that stand alone on their own grounds. A number of luxury villa resorts provide complete privacy along with all the conveniences of central facilities. As development continues, new villas and condominiums are appearing at a steady pace.

Hotels & Resorts
Nice hotels in the traditional Caribbean mould are not that prevalent--though there are several new ones, of varying architectural styles, that are currently in the works. In the meantime, two of the most noteworthy are Blue Haven located not far from the capital and Coco Reef, a beachfront resort, with some suites, close to the airport. A large and lively place that’s situated at the western tip of the island with its own secluded beach on a calm sea amidst delightful gardens. There are two restaurants, champagne bar, lounge bar, fitness centre, tennis courts, small swimming pool, spa, massage, non-motorised watersports, and dive shop.
